Vinyl Reissue Series Commemorates 65th Anniversaryof Prestige Records and 90th Birthday of Legendary Engineer Rudy Van Gelder!
Prestige Records is proud to reissue the classic Coltrane album Stardust, originally released in 1963. The album actually consists of two separaterecording sessions that took place at the studio of the legendary Rudy VanGelder in 1958. The incredible lineup for these sessions includes, in additionto John Coltrane on tenor sax, Wilbur Harden, Freddie Hubbard, Red Garland, PaulChambers, Jimmy Cobb, and Arthur Taylor. This reissue is truly a jazz classicthat is not to be missed in any collection!
During his final months with Miles Davis’ group, John Coltrane participated in anumber of recording sessions for Prestige and New Jazz independently of Davis inboth leader and side-man roles. This album continues the already extensiveseries of recordings from that period.
As John Coltrane grew in popularity, and had stopped recording for Prestige, thelabel began reassembling various Coltrane recordings and reissuing them with hisname prominently displayed.
“…Stardust paints a consistently attractive picture of Coltrane’s 1958output.” -Alex Henderson, allmusic.com
